So I've discovered that every pair of headphones I've used works... it's the headphone jack on my laptop that's faulty. Anyone know how I could fix that?

You can buy a usb sound card. They're not even that expensive.

How would I install it once I get it? Just trying to make sure so I don't fuck it up and have nothing.

Oh, I see. Are there cheaper ones I could get? I'm really tight on money and whatever I've kept I'm using to take my driving test.

riv, I tried the memtest thing (thanks for the advice) and didn't get any errors at all. so I don't think my memsticks (or whatever hardware term it's referred to as) are the problem.

the only other thing I've read up that I can remember is downloading some shitty software with bad scripting or something. which might just be the worst, since I have no idea what program it would be that caused this. and I'm SO tired of re-formatting my hard drive, I'd do anything to avoid that again...

Sometimes I just get a BSOD when I launch My Computer from the start menu.

Seriously?

I must look into this further.

http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellShocker.aspx?cm_sp=ShellShocker-_-22-136-533-_-11092012_1

I'm pretty sure this is cheaper than this hard drive has EVER been, a few days ago it cost $110, and I've never seen it for less than $90. Now it's $80, wow. (still too fucking expensive for a terabyte though)

And I have NO money right now Y U NO?

I still don't understand how you all can spend 1000 dollars on a graphics card for a 3000 dollar rig.

That's like...4 xbox 360s and maybe a few used games.

Well the difference is you spend that money on a graphics card that will last and play any game you throw at it, where as 4 360s would die for random causes within 3 months when your Live subscription ends Not a single fuck wa

I wasn't talking about your hard drive, I was posting something PC-related in the PC thread. The hell. Seriously?

Lol I doubt your 300 dollar graphics card has the combined graphical output of 10 xbox 360s. Not a single fuck wa

Xbox has survived six years ( going on seven) and I've played all the games I've wanted to on it. I don't have a problem paying for online to be honest. Not a single fuck wa

How long would that graphics card last anyway though.

No seriously

Xbox has an Nvidia 7600 GT, 8600 GT was as close as I could get on here so it's actually worse lol
I was right, it's about 10x better (and the xbox is probably on par with my laptop which is shit for games)
Well I don't know how this translates to real world performance but you get the idea.

Seriously?

I don't know what any of that is or means.

So your laptop could play Halo 4 or something.

Okay so this article says that PC graphics cards are being held back by DirectX, and would theoretically be a lot more powerful and awesome if it weren't for Microsoft's API

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-21-pcs-have-10x-console-horsepower-amd

Okay, this explains some things
The reason Xbox 360 games continue to improve graphically despite improved hardware is basically hacks, and PC doesn't get those hacks, so they just throw more horsepower at the problem.
