| I browsed FAF for a long, long, time. Eventually I registered an account so I could make silly contributions to the oftentimes silly shit I saw. After my most recent leave of absence from internet forums and general nonsense I stumbled back onto FAF; I found a lot of people I remembered fondly gone, and most of the current forced drama/pathological attention whoring stale and uninteresting, which brings me here.
Hopefully in a setting with less idiocy, posturing, and internet-politics I can find a reason to enjoy a furry forum as something other than a peripherally amusing distraction, and talk to people/express opinions without knowing it will turn into a chest-beating game for e-popularity or a series of circle-jerks.
Love and peace. :V | |

| Of course if you actually posted this on FAF, the staff would probably ban you for some made-up reason in their non-existent rulebook that is said to exist, but is apparently only accessible by them... | |

Arbitrary rule enforcement is so pervasive among internet forums that I find the very notion of 'forum rules' beyond 'don't piss everyone off' to be a huge joke that I'm in on. Giving people any degree of control over others in an environment where they will suffer zero real consequences for abusing their power is horrible when you combine it with the people who most likely suffer from malignant personality disorders (furries seem to have these in spades :[) I feel like I'd be a lot happier if every forum had a giant sign that said "We'll ban you if we so much as dislike your stupid username.", but I'd miss out on a lot of really hilarious rationalization and self-importance so who knows what I actually want. Penis.

Holy shit, another person who thinks exactly like I do. But what pisses me off about FAF is the insistence that that's not how they work. That they're somehow above that shit. And I think they sincerely believe it, too. I'm not even sure furry culture's problem is more personality disorders than average as much as a crippling self-unawareness.

Confirmation bias is a powerful phenomenon; enough people tell a person that they're right to balance out the ones who tell them that they're wrong and they tend to dismiss all contrary claims outright. I just find it funny that they try to rationalize arbitrary bans when most of the people who DO support them say exactly as I said: "It's a private site and they can ban you for whatever they want.". Also people who self-segregate into social circles where they get encouraged to revel in their degenerative behaviors/thought processes instead of actually improving themselves are the problem more than the personality disorders themselves; I know plenty of neuroatypical people who manage to not be obnoxious cunts. The furry fandom just seems to have this boner for all-inclusiveness that manages to facilitate a lot of avoidable and self-caused drama, but this is not exactly breaking news.

Yeah, I've seen that plenty of times. The thing is though, I don't think the people doing those bans themselves believe that's a rationalization. They've drinken the kool-aid, believe they're doing what's best for the forum/site, and it just so conveniently happens to line up with their personal preferences/biases. Most of the people who make the "private site" argument are the same fucktards that rant about how the world would be better if we were still on the gold standard, Ayn Rand was a prophet, Ron Paul is her prophesied savior, and best of all, willfully ignore the fact the site is private the way PBS is private (surviving on donations from Furfags Like You). - Zaraphayx wrote:

Furaffinity lost whatever claim to inclusiveness it had when it banned me. Not because they didn't accept me. I was an obnoxious cunt. It's that they weren't even willing to give me a second chance, after I'd learned I'd had clinical depression, gotten some help for that, frankly became a much better person for it. It doesn't matter. They're not going to hear me out, because they don't have to. I believe more in inclusiveness than they do, because part of my problem is I feel like I have to try to hear everyone out, whether I want to or not, whether I agree or not, even if they're an obnoxious cunt. They don't believe in inclusiveness. They believe in including the people they want to include, excluding the rest, cutting off everyone who doesn't give them a boner. That's not a boner for inclusiveness, that's a boner for your own narcissism.

Fair point. - Wolf-Bone wrote:

That's not a boner for inclusiveness, that's a boner for your own narcissism. All-inclusiveness was probably not the best word choice on my part; I know from first-hand experience that there is a selective kind of inclusiveness that masks as all-inclusiveness. It exists for the purpose of "protecting" the type of people that cling to the mantra of tolerance and acceptance as a facade for "I am perfect and any assumption to the contrary is an assault on my existence.". I can't speak for your situation since I distanced myself from most internet communities (FAF included) a while back, but seeing some very entertaining, intelligent, and thoughtful people drop out of (either by choice or by force) various forum communities because of egomaniacal site staff and their boot-licking cults of personality is what drove me first into indifference and irreverent shitposting, and eventually out entirely. I'm not going to be an accessory to someone else's superiority complex.

| No, I got what you meant. Total Inclusiveness for the sake of Tolerance is more or less their mantra. More when it's convenient for them, less when it's not. It's really no different than what the Autistic community seems to suffer from. | |
