PostSubject: So people think I'm some sort of inhuman animal.   Thu May 02, 2013 1:48 am

My job, for the most part, doesn't suck too much, despite how much I bitch about it. I get paid decently, I'm comfortable with what I do, and I like my coworkers and the customers (most of the time) just fine. My only real complaint is the fact that we have about seven people on the schedule to run one of the busiest delis in the city, to cover shifts from 6am until 10pm, 11 on evenings and we stay over a lot because there's so much to do and not enough people to do it. I am not joking when I say that if we lose one more person, the deli will probably have to be shut down because Meijer is very against working their employees over 40-45 hours a week, which is about what most of us make. None of us are full time.

On an average day, there's about 4-5 people working:two for morning shift, one midday person, and two closers. Closing is a lot of work, and that's what I normally do. If one person calls in, everyone else is completely fucked. That happened today. I know why my coworker called in and I'm not mad at her for it. It was a legitimate reason. What I'm pissed about is managers telling me, "Oh, you can handle it. You have plenty of down time.". That, of course, is a crock of shit. Tonight was looking like a good night though. I had two of the four slicers cleaned, the front case full, and the dishes done by seven. As I'm in the middle of cleaning the last slicer, these two dipshits come to the counter at 8:58 and have me slice two pounds of cheese. They're regulars and they know we close at nine. Who the fuck does that? Is that just because you felt like being an asspie today? My time with my dad got cut short because I had to clean everything again. In short, everyone remember to be nice to the deli clerks. They do more work than you know. They have lives too.

I'm not nice to deli clerks (and people who handle my food in general) because they do a shit ton of work.

I'm nice to them because they're handling my food, which puts them in a seat of power considering they can do whatever the fuck they want to it and I'd probably never know until it's too late.

Well, that and I don't see the point in making someone's shitty job even more shit than it needs to be.

By human nature, giving yourself a selfish reason to do something will probably motivate you to do it better.

It's not so much as selfish as it is common sense.

My biggest issue is peoples timing. The deli is open for thirteen goddamn hours a day; surely they could find time to get their lunch meat before the last two minutes of our hours of operation. Or just come in the next day
