Allow me to explain a benefit of Tumblr that people like you dont know about. Tumblr is a blogging service of course, but doubles as a very good art website, better than shit like FA and Deviantart. Because theres lots of small groups and fandoms that make up most of Tumblr's userbase, an artist can get recognition fairly quickly. No, I dont mean those people that do Google searches and fill a blog with stock images of screencaps from shows, I mean people that actually sit down and draw shit. People in their little community pass it around to each other, promoting it to their friends, and it shows your art to a wider audience than you could ever hope for on someplace like FA. When you drop a piece on FA, it gets anywhere from 15 seconds to 7 minutes on the front page depending on the time it was posted, and then its gone, thats all the promotion it ever gets. Someone may run a search and favorite it if you tagged it with what theyre searching for, but it will never get promoted to a large audience again, so if you dont capture the attention of the people that are looking at the front page in that 30 second window then your shit just isnt getting recognized, and Ive seen it all the time. Ive seen art submitted a while back that looks fantastic but has little to no views/favorites, and you essentially disappear in the mass of submissions that flood the sites daily. With Tumblr, whne you submit shit, you get the usual Likes, but you get reblogs too, and thats basically like appearing on a front page again, its more promotion, people that dont follow you get to see it and you have that opportunity to get recognition each time. You say Tumblr is a "redundant" feature, but Ive used a lot of these art sites and not once have I seen a system that functions as well as Tumblr on a single one of them.

Its not the same social media bullshit as Facebook or Instagram, its a well functioning site, so I have no idea where your points are even coming from

recognition amongst some 30 million users in your small "art community"(which it isnt because be honest, most of the people on there are just reblogging their friends ejaculations and silly images which hardly makes it an art website). so it is social media, just a different permutation of it. its like if twitter, DA, and a terrible interface had inbred baby twins, and then made those twins fuck, and impregnated facebook with it, and then THAT baby would be tumblr. that dashboard interface, so awful.

I realize I'm opinionated and oftentimes bellicose, but I don't do it to antagonize people (not on this forum anyway); I do it because unlike most people apparently I'm not afraid of disagreement and fully embrace it as part of the social experience. If I disagree with something or dislike something I say so because I don't need or want your approval for sharing your likes, dislikes, or anything in between.

Also, I've gotten into much more heated arguments with people I like a whole hell of a lot more than you, think about that.

It makes nice points, but again it does seem to just focus mainly on those really casual users that just reblog pretty photos of coffee and pictures of old buildings with inspirational quotes added to them. Its obvious to see that theres those users using it like they would a Facebook or something, filling it with stuff that "represents them" when in reality its just someone elses art that your just posting to be hip. I was more talking about the part thats more like an art community: drawing stuff, sharing with it friends, using it for commissions to make a bit of profit from your art. It does have similarities to other art communities, I suppose it just feels a little more friendly and less terrible to be on than the other sites.

I can respect a good opinion and debate on something, but the way it was worded just came off harsh

My disposition towards you is sour because you make a habit out of trying to belittle people when they disagree with you, especially when you come back to try and teach me social etiquette in the form of "there are better ways to do it". Yeah, there are better ways than threatening to ban people for making jokes at your expense too, but you've yet to actually acknowledge that you were in the wrong there and I doubt you ever will.

Trying to reduce every petty disagreement between us to "Zara hates me" is stupid because I'm pretty sure I've been in disagreement with almost everyone on here at least once and as far as I know they don't think I'm out to get them.

Also your whole 'you're doing it wrong' post regarding how I need to register to get the 'real Tumblr experience' (noting that these are my words not yours) was no less insulting, but you don't see me crying about the implication that I'm too stupid to know how to register for a website instead of just giving me the benefit of the doubt that I didn't like what I saw and thus didn't bother investing in it further.

I tend to respond to people in the same manner they respond to me, sometimes I'm having a bad day and get really venomous, but today wasn't that day; I was just expressing how I felt about Tumblr under the assumption that people would see it for what it was: one man's bad impression, and not an attack on their person.
