So, I wanna hear your stories- how'd you become a furry?

Mine started when my parents finally decided to get internet access at home. Yay! No more having to go to my friend's house or the library. (My mom and step-dad really hate technology and were behind the times). It was 2005 and I was 12 at the time. I was learning how the internet works and all the different websites to go to when on a forum I used to go to, somebody posted a ytmnd (remember those?) with this image (NSFW).

A bit confused, I had to look up what furries were, naturally. That brought me to a few pages explaining it, one of them pretty famous but I can't seem to find it anymore. I always loved animal-people cartoon characters, but never knew there was a word for what they were. I'd always imagine myself as one too. >.< And I always liked animals to begin with. So I figured I'd maybe make some drawings and stuff and give myself a fursona. However, I wasn't oblivious. I'd read about all the bad stuff and the bad reputation that furries had. Afraid that someone would find out if I joined the fandom, I held back from joining, restricting myself to browing furry art and drawing my fursona on occasion. (If I was drawing him in school, I'd always be paranoid as fuck that someone would find out I was a furry though).

Fast forward to 2010. It was my first year of college and I was feeling really good, very brave and like I could do anything. Shortly after my 18th birthday, and after meeting a cute furry guy in school, I finally decided to throw in the towel and join FA and some forums. Then it all went downhill from there but let's not get into that.

So, what got you guys into the fandom?

I used to post on FurNation
I used to browse Yerf, VCL, etc
I remember when these were new

Fuck it.

I don't know if I've ever admitted this before, but porn.

Porn got me into this fandom.

I saw some rule34, can't even remember what it was of, and was very displeased by my attraction to it.

I spent a couple months making fun of furries on the internet out of insecurity.

Eventually I came to terms with it and sought out more delicious furry pr0n, eventually caught wind of FurAffinity, and tried to get an account there.

Account registration was broken at the time.

So I joined the forums, tried to draw a bit, got advice in the art forum... I'm sure my art skills developed as a result of that endeavor.

And then I got bored.

Really bored.

I lost sexual interest in furry art pretty quickly.

I was about to leave the forums and say, "fuck the furry fandom, it's not for me."

And then, after spending over a month avoiding it, I ventured into the Forum Games section. I found the GTWT. I liked it. I never left.

I must be going on four years of being a 'furry' now. All because of that one thread.

Fuckin' time-wasting thread.

I'm fairly certain porn accounts for 95% of the furry population. The others are just fucked up in the head. :B

I'm too ashamed to admit what it was that originally got me into the fandom. it was something that every furry to this day, apparently hates.

I was on Youtube looking at the then-latest Halo:CE mods when I came across a comment posted by some dude. The comment asked where the hot sex between the Argonians from the TES series and the Elites from the Halo series was.

Labeling him as one weird fuck, I clicked his profile and followed the abundance of furry-related links he had in his profile description. I went through a brief anti-furry phase before I came to the realization that I liked fapping to animal women.

I got into the whole furry thing from porn too, on newsgroups, before any of those sites were around. In fact, my dad caught me looking at furry porn when I was in junior high. Of course, I was like 13 at the time, so I wasn't involved in the social side of things until my early 20's.

I actually didn't even know furry art was something entirely on it's own or that people could find it weird at the time of me finding that. But damn, I don't even know how I found that fucking site.

Eh, 2007-now for some of his stuff was some good stuff. That was actually where I first saw Renamon too. I thought she was just some random delicious fox lass he made up.

I stopped liking his stuff for a bit because he started getting some...weird proportions and they got really REALLY thin. I figured he hadn't changed styles, but was just getting lazy. But that changed with this. 83

what drives the attraction to Sonic characters?
what's the appeal, especially sexually?
i was asking for my own sake as much as curiosity
