Well, being that the cops were there, I feel sorry too. Though being that I was no more than two feet away from him trying to get into the actual dorm, I felt a little uncomfortable as well.

what, was he blocking the dorm? if him just being there makes you feel uncomfortable, then... no offense, but you don't seem to have been exposed to much. I walk past homeless people every day.

I spent most of my time trying to avoid the sidewalks and places where people gathered.

He was almost in a position where he could've been blocking it. He was right near the door.

And I wasn't uncomfortable with the fact that he was homeless, I was uncomfortable with the fact that he was obviously drunk and in the entrance of a place where students go to live. It's sort of a safety type of thing, you never know what a drunk person is going to do. If he were sober, I'd feel a lot worse for the guy.

Drunk and desperate is a scary combination. Even if he doesn't do anything to you, it's hard not to imagine how you would feel if he destroyed something/stole something/assaulted someone, and you were the one responsible for allowing him into the building...

A million times this.
The door is locked by an ID scanner. I had to unlock it for a brief period of time, in order to get in. During that period, he could've easily gotten inside.
If he did do any of the three things you mentioned, I'd never forgive myself. I'd probably fall into a deep depression, never feeling worse in my life.

this might sound stupid, but even homeless people have a reputation to protect. considering most homeless people stay in one area, they become known/acknowledged. the last thing they want is to be known as that homeless guy who tried to assault someone. it'll get around. it cuts off their option to panhandle in that area.

everyone here is either drunk, or on their way to get drunk, so it's more of an issue of stay out of their way

I've heard stories of homeless people saving lives, this statement isn't stupid at all.

I'm a little too sympathetic toward homeless people. there were two homeless people I used to walk past every day on my way home from school, and every now and then, I'd buy them something from mcdonalds. they were bros.

don't know what happened to them.
