See in Jurassic Park he used his hat, which wasn't a pith helmet as Twilight is wearing to fool the raptors, which did not work and he also did not use a wooden stock hunting rifle with a scope, but a 12 gauge SPAS-12 combat shotgun made of metal and composite materials. Due to the nature of the game being hunted combined with its speed and intelligence a bolt action, long range precision tool such as a rifle would be almost entirely ineffective especially with the close range he would be fighting at. This brings us to the combat shotgun with a fold out stock that he was using. The SPAS-12 was designed for close range fighting that he would be in against a fierce close proximity predator as the raptor, because of its close range spread even if the raptor were to jump to the side it would still be hit stunning it for long enough for him to fire again. Unfortunately, raptors are sneaking cunts.
