No seriously. Okay so I have a hotel and on the floor below it there's a lounge, bar, and restaurant that stick out, each at different lengths away from the edge of the floors above. But I have to make them split level so that their roofs don't block the windows of the floor above. So I have to calculate the floor height based on the slope of the roof and the distance of the exterior walls. I have to make stairs, but I have to have them set far enough back to account for the change in slope of the ceiling as it steps down to the half-level, and give enough of a view from the top of the split-level to get a good view out of the window. But in order to set this step-down far enough back, I'm running out of space in my bar and I don't know if I have enough room to put stairs in there. I could move my coat room and set my bar back further, but then I would have to find somewhere else to put it and I would also lose my bar storage closet. I want to have as few steps as possible, so preferably the lower level should all be at the same height. Oh, and there is a basement below this, so I have to think about a step down on that level too. And I want my basement to exit at ground level, but there is not enough of a slope of the site to enter level with the ground on the first floor and exit on the basement level, especially with this step-down. With the step-down, that's a difference of 22 feet. Accounting for the full width of my building from front to back, which is around 100 feet, even the steepest part of my site only gives a difference in height of 10 feet. Which means I either have to have a 12 foot flight of stairs up to the front door (horrible) Or a 6 foot flight of stairs in the front (good) and have the basement come out 6 feet below the ground level, and have retaining walls on either side until the floor matches the ground level (horrible, because this is a ski lodge and snow would just pile up there) Oh and thank god I don't have to factor in ADA requirements, or I'd also have to put fucking ramps everywhere, and I'm not sure if I could even get an elevator to stop at a half-level.

This happens to me sometimes, and if I sleep on it I'll usually realize later that there was a much simpler solution I didn't see at the time. Except I can't sleep on it, because I need this shit done by tomorrow.
