After reading Greg's post, I went to look up water chestnuts, because I've never seen a whole one. I went to the Wikipedia page, and it was going well, until...

Well they put them in Chinese food all the time, and they're so good
The rest of this soup is just tasteless mush hidden by a bunch of spices, but the water chestnuts actually still have some crunch to them.
