I know for me I would never play the older games in certain franchises like the first two Metroids, original Kirby, and Raiden. Some stuff is just too primitive to care anymore. But it's sheer preference.

I don't think of it as primitive, so much as a different focus. typical complaints aside, I just prefer slow paced puzzle-solving and health management, over fast paced action and 'press this button to instantly heal'. I also prefer the environments of the old RE games over the new ones.

it's just... there's so many caves, and sewers and linear paths, I feel like getting the chapter over with, rather than looking at little details and stuff like I would be if I were playing RE3 or something. thinking "oh, there's kendo's gun shop. I remember when I had to go through the back to reach the police station.

I don't know shit about RE aside from the fact that Chris guy fucks up boulders.

I think the reason I like the outbreak series (even though it's barely ever talked about, even among RE fans) is because it has locations that sort of fill out the rest of the city. like the subway. it even revisits old locations, like the hospital and police department. so it's a bit of nostalgia.
