Played the demo for Mass Effect 3 and I have to say, I do have high hopes. The combat seems challenging and engaging: It feels like your weapons have weight. Plus, Wrex is back so <3

He's not defending gays as much as he's defending a corporation's right to discriminate whichever way they please, just in this one, rare instance it happens to be in favor of gays and, supposedly at the expense of one sect of conservatives. If by "gain more votes" you mean keep their consumers loyal and continue to be profitable, then yes, probably. I don't believe they're doing this out of the goodness of their heart, but then I'm hard pressed to believe individuals even have goodness or a heart, much less when they form organizations. But it might be that they see the writing on the wall, so to speak, that gays aren't going anywhere and that they're just as capable of being sales clerks and spokespeople as the next lil' slice of the cynical, consumerist demographic pie-chart.
